About the Role
The Vessel Manager is responsible for the safe, compliant and efficient operation of FV Takapo.
Acting as the primary shore-based contact for the vessel, you'll work closely with the Master, Chief Engineer, Factory Manager, fishing crews, suppliers and regulatory authorities to ensure every voyage achieves the highest standards of performance, safety and compliance.
You will be responsible for:
Managing vessel operations and turnaround activities
Supporting crew management and personnel planning
Fisheries compliance and catch reporting
Maintenance planning and work-list management
Provisioning and voyage preparation
Coordinating contractors, suppliers and service providers
Monitoring operational performance and costs
Supporting regulatory compliance with Maritime NZ, MPI and company requirements
Acting as the key shore-based point of contact for vessel operations
What We’re Looking For
We're interested in people with practical experience in commercial fishing, maritime operations or marine engineering who understand the realities of operating large vessels in a demanding environment.
Ideally you will bring:
Significant experience in deep-sea fishing, maritime operations or vessel management
Strong understanding of fisheries operations and compliance requirements
Experience managing maintenance programmes and vessel work scopes in conjunction with the engineering team
Knowledge of maritime safety and regulatory requirements
Excellent planning, communication and problem-solving skills
Strong leadership capability and the ability to build productive relationships with vessel crews and shore-based teams
Experience working with vessel management, maintenance or reporting systems
Desirable
Senior seagoing experience as a Master, Mate, Chief Engineer or senior vessel officer
Experience with deep-sea factory trawlers or large commercial vessels
Maritime, engineering or fisheries-related qualifications
